Norman Soloman: The Warfare State
From Alternet comes this article by Norman Soloman. Any time a Liberal author can use a quotation from Dwight Eisenhower to skewer supposedly Conservative targets, you know the political spectrum has become mis-alligned. This is a good read. Like him, I'm totally POed at the gutless wonders who pass for "Lefties" and "Liberals" these days. Where is the Liberal political leader who will speak the truth and say, "We can't afford to funnel any more money through Iraq to Corporate America?" Where is today's Gene McCarthy who, while not a great candidate, at least told us the truth. Politicians on the left and the right have all been co-opted by the same special interests, or they're so timid about risking their own political hide that they might as well be.
Read the whole article through the link below. Here's the Eisenhower quote though, just cause it's good:
President Dwight Eisenhower in 1953: "Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."
